Raashii Khanna is all set to star in The Sabarmati Report alongside Vikrant Massey and Riddhi Dogra. The actress recently spills the beans about her debut project and how she got cast after S. S. Rajamouli for a rom-com Oohalu Gusagusalade.

Raashii Khanna opens up about her journey coming from a middle-class family

Raashi Khanna talked about the phase when she started her journey in acting. Coming from a middle-class family, the actress never felt that she would star in a big-banner film. Narrating her story, she said, “I come from a middle-class family so we never used to go to the the theatre because we used to find it very expensive to buy the tickets, to buy popcorn as kids. So we never used to watch movies; whatever came on the TV we used to see that. So I never grew up around film, and I was not that interested, or there was no one in my family too from the film industry. As a middle-class family, you also feel that it is not the right field.”

She further added, “I was in college, then I started modelling. I researched if there is any agency that we can trust or not. I used to work on weekends and during the weekdays, I used to study. After college, one of my friends wanted to become an actress and she asked me to come to Bombay with her and I said okay. I ran away from my first audition because I was scared I was shy. It was an ad audition; later on, I was sent to a limited audition because fewer people used to come there. I did the audition, then I did the ad, and then I got the audition for Madras Cafe. I first said no because I was not interested in films, and I had that thought on why would they cast me opposite John Abraham. I had no background; after calling me twice after I said no, I got a call again from the casting director and he said, ‘You have a chance of getting the film.’ Out of respect, I went for the audition. Then I gave the audition and within a week I got the film and then I started getting films. Since then I’ve been here.”

Raashii Khanna reveals how S. S. Rajamouli recommended her in South after watching Madras Cafe

The actress furthermore revealed how she became a big actress in the South film industry and how her journey began. She expressed, “I was very clear right from the start that I wanted to play a good character even if it is a small role or else I do not want to do a film. I thought I would go back home, and do my studies. I was not even starstruck but I used to like Shah Rukh Khan. So I had my plans, and I always say acting is an insecure job. You have no idea if you will have your next film or not or how much time you have to wait. As a middle-class person, you always need this job security and earn money. After Madras Cafe, S. S. Rajamouli watched the film and recommended him for his film. I always have this thought that South films are only for singing and dancing and I would only do it if the script is right, and I heard it, liked it and then I signed it. It became a hit and I started getting films and I kept working.”

The Sabarmati Report is an upcoming Hindi-language drama thriller film written by Avinash and Arjun with direction by Ranjan Chandel. It also stars Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, and Ridhi Dogra.
